The NOC Medical and Scientific Commission 5-man delegation led by Dr Akin Amao paid a courtesy visit to the Honourable Commissioner for Sports Mr Deji Tinubu at Teslim Balogun on 19/04/2016. Members of the commission’s delegation included Dr Akin George, Dr Sikuade Jagun, Dr. Bukola Bojuwoye and Bakare Ummukulthoum PT. The Medical Commission in view of its mandate to protect athletes health is currently on track to hold a large scale National Sports Medicine Course for Coaches and Medical personnel representatives from the 36 states in the country and the FCT under the auspices of the Nigeria Olympic Committee and Olympic Solidarity co-operation. The event is scheduled to take place 18-21 May, 2016 in Lagos, Nigeria.
Dr Akin Amao thanked the Honourable Commissioner for his vision and laudable projects in the state so far and charged him to continue in this path.
He then called for partnership with the state for the oncoming project in view and further highlighted the need for continuous co-operation and support to achieve desired goals in ensuring that our athletes get the best and up to date support from both coaches and medical personnel to optimize performance.
The course is expected to demystify grey areas and bridge a gap between the two stake holders in the best interest of the athletes. Mr Deji Tinubu welcomed the delegation with huge enthusiasm and he pledged to support the project reinstating his commitment for the development and advancement of sports in Lagos and indeed the nation as a whole.
